Drama Department Hosts Playwriting Boot Camp

Concordia's Drama Department and the GTC (Green Thespian Collective (drama club)) are sponsoring a playwriting workshop this weekend with award winning writer, director and actor Mieko Ouchi.

The Playwriting Boot Camp runs on Saturday, February 4 2:00 to 4:30 in the Tegler Auditorium at Concordia University College.

The workshop is free to GTC members and $5.00 for non GTC Members.

Concordia Hosts 200th Birthday Party for Charles Dickens

On February 7, 2012, Concordia will be the official host of Charles Dickens' 200th birthday.

Concordia alumna will present papers on various topics regarding Dickens' work, including "Bleak House," "Captain Murder" and more. President Dr. Gerald Krispin will lead a special chapel service, there will be a birthday tea party in the library, and students will take part in a Dickens' Read-a-Thon, where they will read "A Tale of Two Cities" continually for 24 hours. If they complete the book, they will continue reading other works by Charles Dickens.

Concordia Education Program Recognized by Alberta Teacher's Association

On December 2, 2011, Provincial Executive Council approved a draft memorandum of understanding between the Association and the Edmonton-based postsecondary institution. The draft memorandum applies in every respect to the elements of the relationship the Association enjoys with the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta and grants interim recognition of Concordia’s teacher preparation program.

On December 2, 2011 Concordia's Board of Governors approved an Internationalization Strategy to broaden and deepen Concordia's pool of potential students.

The strategy is focused on untapped markets and that is both fiscally responsible and in keeping with the university's directional plan. The Board appointed Dr. Manfred Zeuch as VP International, on a two-year pro tem basis, to lead the Internationalization initiative.

Exam Anxiety Workshop Goes Online

With final exams for the autumn semester just around the corner, Concordia University College of Alberta offers special workshops to cope with exam stress.

Hosted by Concordia's Counselling Psychologist, Barbara VanIngen, the seminar aims to provide students the tools to understand why exams cause anxiety, and how to cope with the added stress.

The autumn installation of the Exam Anxiety Workshop is now availble online on Concordia's YouTube Channel.

Concordia Student Featured on CBC Radio's Ed Pod Challenge

On Monday, November 21, CBC's Edmonton's morning show, Edmonton AM, featured Concordia music student Sara Isabel.

The Ed Pod Challenge features local musicians and challenges them to convince listeners to download one of their songs for $1.

Sara's song, "Simple Taste," was the featured track.

Concordia students introduce Make your Mark - a fundraising campaign for scholarships and bursaries.

On November 2nd, Concordia students gathered in the Tegler Student Centre to introduce the Make your Mark campaign. The Concordia Student Challenge is about students helping students.
