For the last 4 years students from Concordia University College have organized and managed mission trips along the west coast of B.C. during Reading Week. The impact on our campus community has been significant as students have returned each year energized and excited about ministry and the work of the Lord. The communities have appreciated their visits. Working with the B.C. Mission Boat Society, our students have become an important part in connecting and supporting the faith communities in these villages.
One of the communities visited, Klemtu, decided to support a return visit by sending 17 students from their High School to Concordia and to Edmonton. The Klemtu students have been working hard to raise funds for this trip. A major fund-raising event was the selling of valentine candy and cards, which the students then delivered on Valentine's Day. All their hard work paid off because they were able to raise enough funds to cover transportation and related expenses. The Klemtu group will arrive on Sunday, February 26 and return home on Saturday, March 4th.
Many plans for the Klemtu students have been made: visits to various cultural venues in Edmonton, West Edmonton Mall, and an Oilers game. At Concordia they will be students for a day and participate in daily events including Chapel and Sunday Night praise in Tegler.
Concordia's Goldbar campus will also host them as part of a UCEP (University and College Entrance Program) day and on Friday afternoon, March 3rd, for Plains native drumming and dancing.
This is a great trip for these young people traveling from this tiny village and an exciting opportunity to expand Concordia's ministry.
